New Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Trains Have Wifi and More Space
By Justine Lopez
China’s fancy new bullet trains started running between Beijing and Shanghai on Monday. There's a lot to love about these new trains – but we're mainly excited about the fact that they have free wifi!
We’ve been waiting a long time for this.
The two new high-speed trains – called Fuxinhao (meaning great rejuvenation of Chinese nation) – are the first to be fully developed in China.
There are a number of improvements that come with these new trains. All passengers will not only have access to some much appreciated wifi but there will be free chargers for electronics too. They also boast top speeds of 400km/h but can run at a consistent speed of 350km/h.
These trains are designed to last for 30 years, 10 more years than the older 'Hexiehao' trains. They are also much more energy efficient, consuming 17 percent less energy (per 100km at speeds of less than 350km/h) compared to older trains.
At 4.05 meters tall, the trains are now taller compared to the previous model. Not only is there more space for passengers, but the trains are also less noisy.
